Booths Garden Studios

Wendy's sewing, art and crafts studio

LoLine QC 15' x 9' with 3' flyover roof and 6' decking

Wendy King's 15' x 9' LoLine QC garden studio, used for sewing, art and crafts, with a fanlight window, recessed blinds and a flyover roof.

Wendy's sewing, art and crafts studio

We visited customer Wendy King’s garden studio, which she uses primarily for sewing, art and crafts. The studio measures 15’ x 9’ with a 3’ flyover roof and 6’ front decking.

A fanlight window on the rear wall provides natural light and ventilation, offering the dual benefit of illumination and airflow. Recessed blinds were installed throughout the south-facing windows so the sun can be controlled comfortably.

Three downlights are set into the flyover roof, along with two exterior pillar lights. The flyover roof also provides shelter and is a real advantage during inclement weather.

all right i'm here with alex alex you've got a fan light window to show me we get asked for fan lights you know we do uh three types of windows we do a half window the full window which is our standard window yeah which in this case wendy she uses this is a craft room she knew this was going to get hot and she wanted some air to blow through it and if you have windows opposite side of each other that will always happen so when we've got this tilt this fan light window and it opens opens and it's got a lock on it that has for that lock and there's your heat so we can lock that up so and i was surprised at the height of it i had it in my head it was a lot higher than that but well your lintels uh your soffits through there so it's the same height as the as the as the corresponding yeah so what we've got in there is a lintel with a piece of steel in it a box of steel in there right it's supposed to so it's roughly it's just about it's just slightly above your head height then isn't it and you're some people have them because they want light coming in and they don't want to improve on their next-door neighbor you know yeah the neighbor looking in so some people have them round a row yeah now wendy said she really likes it yeah she does yeah yeah okay that's great thank you

I'm here with Alex we're just discussing putting a blind on the recessed not the recess the fan light window yeah uh well the fan light window is quite small six six and a half inches yeah and then the blinds up about inch and a half two inches so if it was on there yeah you'd only end up with about four inches of glass right showing me if it was privacy reasons because it doesn't go from the whole thing it covers sits inside this recess okay it is a standard blind an option yeah that would be because you could put it above you could see it up here you know above the window right so that wouldn't intrude yeah you could pick the blind or from the range or Argos yourself you know very easy maybe we don't have it we don't stock that size you know if you wanted a blind I think I'd be tempted to attach it above right okay that's great thank you

yeah Alex this might uh we're just in the middle of a hail storm yeah but we want to discuss the uh well the fly over which actually does show one of the advantages of a fly over because you can stand here and we don't get touched by it it's quite a hail stor flying about tou it yeah what we wanted to discuss was the orientation of your building in the garden and using flyover and a and a deck or a canopy the orientation of the Garden Studio if you are facing south which this one is this one is you're going to get a lot of sun and solar gain through your glass so the studio is going to get warm if the studio is facing north you're going to get very little solar game so it's not going to get hot at all with the flyover because in the in because this is South fa and we've got the flyover the Sun sun is higher in the sky in the summer and lower in the sky in the winter so in the winter that solar game is quite useful cuz it will warm the studio without heater without overheating it in the summer it's too much the heat Studio too high so that's why some Studios have air condition units Wendy didn't go for that she went for the window on that side and the French doors and the flyover cuz the flyover will stop about 50% of the sun cuz when the sun's in the sky so there will be a shadow so it won't we getting that hot so if when you're planning your garden Studio it's a good idea to go on to Google Maps look at the top Top's always South sorry Top's North isn't it yeah bottom south and east west and find out where your windows are pointing bring up your garden on Google Earth you will point and see which way your windows are facing if you're facing north don't worry about an airon if you're facing south consider an airon or consider a flyer yeah consider both was uh Wendy said the fly over is is definitely a help she's got a three foot fly over and she also said the blinds are a big help yeah on on a hot sunny day yeah and it's any any house will get hot on a hot sunny day if if it's north or south facing north facing cold south facing more yeah okay that's great thank you that's the hail Stones just stopped
