Gill's guest bedroom and home gym in one

okay I'm here with Alex where we' visited uh Jill who lives in Wales he's got these gorgeous views from her garden studio uh and with Alex Alex this studio is right at the bottom of Jill's Garden yeah Jill sold a house moved from London I think she lived in South London the elephant castle and uh bought this house in the middle of the whales they're out walking they've got four children so they wanted a studio uh well one it's a bit of a gymnasium and two to uh for the children cross trainer for the children to come she's got four children who live in Brighton and uh and London and grandchildren the cottage that they've got is quite small so they thought well we'll buy a garden studio and it kills a lot of birds actually with one stone the views are fantastic so they say they spend quite a lot of time sitting down here it's got a gymnasium which is nice uh and so they get to enjoy it and do other crafts and things in here but what they wanted because people stay in here overnight I her family and grandchild was a toilet right and they haven't got any main Supply no so we looked into that the uh option of putting in a main Supply but it was very very expensive it was coming out about 8,000 it was 8,000 really it was quite a long it is a long Garden isn't it yeah and we were going to have to dig through trees trees were in the way uh we're going to put Pump Station in and for the the use that it was going to get I the toilet was going to get it wasn't wasn't Fe occasional use so we put this so got a toilet cubicle here so that is uh so 6t by 3T 6 by 3T cubicle 1820 by 910 mil yeah mm so in here we've put a cartridge toilet that's the cartridge toilet there so it looks pretty similar to another toilet it's got an electrical fit it's got a chemical so the chemical is flushing the toilet so when you press the button this chemical comes out that helps to clean and sanitize the the bowl but it also uh discard hides any smell that would come back from the toilet so right and then your waste product goes into a cartridge which can be removed and disposed of down a drain or somewhere then you just put more chemical in it so if you in the middle of the night and you're caught short it's perfect yeah and if you had a office at home and you and it looks quite nice I think and you were caught short and you just want it's occasional yeah just looks like a normal toilet really doesn't it what the buttons that's the different methods of flushing the chemical down the toilet yeah well she's very happy isn't she so it's obviously done the job isn't it didn't she say that her and her husband ended up down here yeah when the I think the children and all the grandchildren came and stayed they found it beest because the children were quite young babies I think all the family stayed in the cottage and they came down here and stayed here which is nice I would mind waking up to them views in the morning yeah no no it's gorgeous okay that's lovely thanks for that Alex

still here with Alex we've just had a look at the cartridge toilet but Jill's also got a cartridge sink yeah cuz if you have the toilet then obviously you want the ability you need to wash your hands wash your hands so we've got this tiny little sink we just gave uh Jill the link and she bought this direct we we put a fused Outlet in that sits behind that allows it to turn on what it is is it's a small cupboard and you have clean water and waste water so you just bring up this 5 L of clean water that goes through and it ends up in the the dirty container which you just dispose of and once that's full then obviously you need to replenish the new container so so it's all self-contained there's no Mains Plumbing at all no Mains Plumbing it's just got a small button here turn on takes a couple of seconds hot water and that's warm enough to wash your hands so turn off not red hot and then you turn it off so that water is now gone from the clean one into the dirty one yeah that's great isn't it and it's not it doesn't take up any room at all really does it no no not at all so it it does what it says on the tin you can go yeah and it marries up well with the carish toilet and that's saved £8,000 worth of drainage of expense on drainage so if you if if you're running a small office you you want them if you've got staff it's occasional use yeah that's great okay thanks for that

okay I'm here with Alex Alex I get asked a lot about whether or not we do internal partition walls say a customer wants two areas one for an office and one for a chill out area or for a gym so what's the situation with internal partition walls this is an internal partition wall you know our studios are in 91 sections so this bit here is 910 that bit is 910 so we try to keep the walls at 910 sections this gives us somewhere substantial to fix the wall too which is always handy and uh the wall can go straight down and we say 910 because you don't want your wall to end up in the middle of a window so the windows are 910 as well right yeah cuz the windows are 910 wide yeah so if this wall was to carry on down here it would come down in between the window right I see right okay so uh on this particular wall it doesn't because it's got the corner post so that means that we've gone at 90 in the other direction so we put what we call a corner post that's uh something that's fabricated in the workshop and made up that's something that you cost for if they want a corner uh so the wall can come that way and then go that way you'd have corner post or it could continue all the way there yeah so with the way the way the walls are costed is as a wall and then an internal door and then a corner post yeah what you're saying is if this toilet cubicle carried on all the way to that window that wouldn't be the cost of that corner post yeah right and then you have your door and your door frame uh the door now we just do a smooth door to match the walls right we don't do this type of door but everything else about it it's the same the frame the handle the door frame right again it's all manufactured at the workshop so it's quite quickly fitted and some people they don't necessarily have to have an internal door do they sometimes will put a an extra door on the front of the studio yeah so they can walk in and some people just have we we did a studio not long ago what they did was it was a really big studio so they put walls in here and then we put the toilet in the corner uh Behind the Walls just for modesty really people are going if it was a big office and we had a window in there it was behind the store room we put the store room so they had a load of walls and then there was no door or no just the wall ended and you went in that was all the store room and then the toilet was in the furthest Corner away from the people who are working at the desk right so it was a bit more private yeah yeah so we can do quite a few things with the internal walls yeah but generally work them in 9 10 sections yep brilliant okay thanks for that

I'm still here with Alex we're just discussing the fact that this is used as an occasional bedroom by Jill's uh children and their children yeah her grandchildren apparently the children fight over who's going to sleep down here yeah well it'd be quite exciting wouldn't it if you're a child there's no Heating in here being put on and we were all surprised when we walked in here how warm it is it's warm uh so they don't get that cold so it wouldn't take much to heat this up to veryt get it to comfortable temperature take no time at all the instant H so that's why they use it as a bedroom so and what do they use because they haven't got a bed as such have they they' just got a couch that that turns into a double bed so that's a sofa sofa bed and did she mention uh I think they have a blow bed as well blow up bed as well so they put a blowout bed and and that bed this this studio is 18 by 12 yeah 5 63 640 so which is a fair size and it's about a good size for a for a bed you could wake up in here in the morning be nice and comfortable we know that with the temperature and uh and the bed you've got your toilet it would be cuz she's got her toilet over there so waking up in here in the morning wouldn't be a a problem would it it would be a pleasure I would think especially with this view got a bit Sunshine lovely okay then that's lovely thanks then Alex

right I'm here with Alex and Jill in Jill's beautiful house in Wales and we' got Jill here and uh this is an extension Jill isn't it you built yeah for stunning views yes we're really really lucky to have a wonderful view from from our kitchen um but we've also got a wonderful view from the studio so that's part of the reason people like staying there and being cuz you you've positioned it quite far away from the from from your house haven't you from your cottage what was what was the logic behind that H interesting probably my husband's saying I don't want too close to the cottage right but from my point of view I think it's nice to have a separation between the house which is 1790 the original Cottage was built in right and um the way in which this extension has been designed means that when you're standing at the bottom of the garden you can't actually see the new extension so the Integrity of the building ah right yeah did notice that actually is still maintained yeah um so it's you know we've got a modern extension at the back of the cottage so we thought if we were going to have something modern we we'd position it a reasonable way away from from the cottage itself that makes sense um and also uh our children and the grandchildren like the excitement of wandering down the garden in the night with a torch to find their beds they think that's fun so but you know we've been absolutely delighted with the studio it's been brilliant it's you know an extension of the house um and it's comfortable you know the the bathroom area the toilet and the Basin have made a real difference and uh and as I point out this morning in terms of insulation we haven't had any heating on the last couple of months in there and yet the room is still perfectly comfortable to be in so um if somebody were to turn up a gang were to turn up unexpectedly tonight I could quite happily put them in there yeah yeah that's good and that was the main reason was it just for the extra space or was it for the accommodation for sleeping sleeping over well it's to put so that we can have both our families got young children staying at the same time because they like to be here together but the house isn't big enough right to accommodate everybody at the same time so it means that they can do that it also acts as a sort of mini gym because we're 20 minutes away from the nearest gym so we've got a cross trainer in there and it's used as a gym it's great storage space got freezer down there so it's full of red currents from last summer because we had a glut of red currents and I did did all sorts of things with those so it's just multi-purpose and it's you know I'd really recommend it to anybody that's looking for extra space in their lives yeah excellent that's lovely thanks for that Jo
