Booths Garden Studios

A hairdressing salon at the bottom of the garden

QC Garden Studio 9' x 9' (2730mm x 2730mm)

A compact 9' x 9' QC garden studio runs as a hairdressing salon with no groundworks, using a frost-free hose and a roller waste unit.

A hairdressing salon at the bottom of the garden

A hairdressing salon operates from a compact 9’ x 9’ QC garden studio with no traditional groundworks required — proof of how little site work a working salon space actually needs.

Water is supplied via a frost-free hose connected to an exterior tap, while waste drains into a roller unit that is emptied periodically. The salon can run either a conventional 10.5kW shower unit or, more economically, a small 2kW water heater.

Inside, a darker laminate flooring was chosen specifically to minimise the visibility of hair colour and chemical spills — a practical detail for day-to-day salon use. Clients appreciate the unusual and relaxed setting for their hair styling.

so yeah coming back to the shower situation then Alex could you physically show me how does she get water to that shower because it's not via main strain no she's just used a hose uh what they call a frost free hose so there's your hose there when it's frost free what it'll allow for is expansion and contraction of the water should it freeze up so that it will so that's that's literally just connected to an outside tap on the house yeah it's just connected to an outside tap it's run overground to the studio and and it goes straight into that shower yeah so the downside is that it could possibly freeze if if if it got too cold it could possibly freeze but you know the if we're in bristled so you know the weather further south doesn't get that cold and if it did you're talking a couple of days a year so the benefits of having done what she's done outweigh the cost of if she was going to put us all underground and bring it all in in a different way so she's weighed up the Alternatives costed it this way she probably probably done it in an afternoon put the hose through put the hose onto the back Y and then the water out where if you were to do the drainage probably talking 45,000 and the upheaval of patios groundworks uh and all that that's involved so I understand why she's done it and she'll she understands what the downside is yeah which could happen so that's the water supply get into the shower where does the dirty water then go to so we've got a tank around here so you can see unfortunately there's a tree tree up here so it's covered in poo so you just pick this tank up with a handle and the wheels are on here so you then wheel that tank across to the open uh Gully drain that she's got on her house up the water will come out and theno she brings it back slots the and she's she says she does a one day a week where she does 12 hours how many of them did she say she uses she empty two two sometimes three two right so not not so it's not a major hassle no no and didn't you weren't you telling her that there was another option well I'm going to design a small tank that will have a float switch in it on a on a pump so as soon as it hits a certain level it will empty itself right again uh ice and frost could have a impact on a bit of a factor but you're talking these two items put in a cost of £500 as opposed to 45,000 yeah and we've just come through a winter where there was never a day within that winter where these pipes would have Frozen yeah we're now into April and that's a whole I can guarantee the last winter that we've had that was never a point bad enough to these to freeze so it's that risky take and the thing for Sam as she was telling me is that that they've just moved house so and she had clients she had to get them in very quick up and running yeah she had days remember that yeah we the studio went in on that day where we couldn't change that schedule which we we adhered to we kept to that schedule I think Sam was in there within a day or two cut no she was yeah yeah so they didn't have time for all the drainage and stuff so so it it ticked the Box on that score as well yeah and then if time she wanted to do the drainage that's quite possible she could yeah okay that's fantastic thank you

i'm here with neil and alex and uh neil's actually installed what do you call it a water well it's my waste management system um because i've got drainage issues and running it down was going to be too expensive so i solved it the hose is a hose lock ultimate hose which has a 30 year guarantee it's meant to be frost proof very flexible and perfect for the job it's almost food quality i'm not going to drink from it though um and then for the waste water i've run it into this waste carrier which is normally used for caravans so this is the waste part of it yes so it's a waste master or you could use an aqua roll uh they're about 50 pounds from caravan shops i got this on ebay for 25 quid right so what i was quoted 3 000 pounds to do i've done for 125 right okay that's fantastic is and how easy is that to empty and where do you empty it it's um this one's a 40 liter one so it's fairly heavy but we'll roll okay down the path i've got an outside drain and the combination of emptying i use this one to fill the caps go on start emptying it use the top one so that it doesn't glug uh so the air can go in at the top all right and then once it's um almost empty i can use this one right on the base right to fully empty it into the drain could you show us the inside unit is that what was that the inside unit yeah i can show you the the heating system i've set up so it's it's hot water as well then yes wow yeah i thought i presumed it was just a cold water supply no i've um plumbed it in so this is um a five liter storage heating unit um relatively inexpensive for uh i've got this through amazon i think um and um so i've got hot and cold running water how do you get your cold water here uh cold water's through the hose right now so it's just garden hose outside comes to here yeah comes to here and the only thing i've had to do because of the um fitting it all in the one cabinet is i used needed to get one of the expansion tanks fitted uh so that uh i don't have hot water expanding at the back that's right the grey unit there um all of that um slightly uh extra but if you look up the the storage units uh all the plumbing details uh on there yeah and you were quoted how much to do this with proper drainage so it was the whole drainage um and that wasn't trench digging i was quoted three thousand pounds plus that um so uh for my use um i've only needed to empty that waste carrier um sort of once a week once fortnight it's quite heavy uh but because of the wheels uh it's easy enough to manage and they do do 20 liter ones as well um so if you're not as fit yeah the smaller one smaller one will do the job well that's great thanks for that welcome
